Join Outdoor Pursuits staff on an outdoor adventure! No experience necessary. Any fees cover your guide, transportation and equipment.

Upcoming adventures
Hidden Glen & Stream Hike
- Noon鈥3 p.m. Saturday, September 6
- Binghamton, $5
Nestled in a hidden glen not far from campus is a forest oasis. Winding trails lead to a picturesque gorge with towering Hemlocks and a gently falling stream. Bring your sense of adventure, water bottle and sturdy shoes for a refreshing hike. Meet in front of the East Gym at 11:50 a.m.

Rafting the Black River
- 8 a.m.鈥8 p.m. Saturday, September 13
- Watertown, $80
This trip through the Black River gorge on Class 3 and 4 rapids is guaranteed to be a thriller! Van transportation takes you from the front of the East Gym to Watertown and back. All necessary gear is provided (e.g. wetsuits) if necessary. Bring your enthusiasm and a friend for a fun river run.

Adirondack Canoe & Hiking Trip
- 8 a.m. Saturday, September 20 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, September 23
- MANDATORY pre-trip meeting: 6:15鈥7 p.m. Monday, September 15 in EG-14
- Saranac Lake, $175 (includes food, gear and transportation)
Fall is a peaceful time to explore the Adirondack High Peaks! Spend three nights and four days paddling, hiking and camping while discovering some of the best wilderness the region has to offer. You鈥檒l also learn basic navigation and backcountry travel skills along the way. Sharing daily camp chores and sleeping in a tent are all part of this unforgettable adventure.
Participants must be proficient swimmers and ready for the daily challenges of outdoor living. No prior experience is needed, just a willingness to 鈥渞ough it.鈥 Attendance at pre-trip meetings is required, where we鈥檒l go over menu options and packing lists.

Catskill Fire Tower Hike
- 8:30 a.m.鈥5:30 p.m. Sunday, September 28
- Hunter Mountain, $20
Ready to challenge yourself? Join us for a moderately strenuous hike to the summit of Hunter Mountain (elev. 4040') in the northeast Catskills. Our hard climb will be rewarded with many spectacular views. Even more incredible vistas await those who venture up the fire tower.
Sturdy hiking boots or shoes are very important. Bring along a small pack with a bomber lunch, great snacks and plenty of water (1 liter) for the day. Essential clothing for the weather is a must (rain coat and synthetic clothing for warmth). Bring extra money for a food stop on the return to Binghamton. This is a challenging hike, but we leave no one behind!

3 Gorges Waterfalls Hike (NO CLASSES)
- 8:30 a.m.鈥5:30 p.m. Thursday, October 2
- Ithaca, $15
Lace up your hiking boots for a grand slam of three of our Finger Lakes gorges! First up is Taughannock Falls gorge, where you will stand in the mist of the second highest falls in New York State, then Buttermilk Falls with an awesome gorge full of natural curiosities, and finally Robert H. Treman State Park featuring 115-foot Lucifer Falls.
Wear sturdy hiking shoes and bring a small pack with a 1-liter water bottle, lunch, and snacks. Since there won鈥檛 be a lunch stop, please pack accordingly. Dress for the weather.

Evening Cider & Donuts Hike

- Chenango Valley State Park, $10
This will be an easy social hike along the forested lake side trails of our closest state park. It鈥檚 a great way to meet other outdoorsy friends and enjoy a late afternoon hike. Wear sturdy hiking boots or shoes, bring water in a small day pack or book bag. Dress for the weather. A tailgate snack will greet us when we return to the parking lot!

Foliage & Fire Tower Hike
- 8:30 a.m.鈥5:30 p.m. Sunday, October 12
- Balsam Lake Mountain, $20
Balsam Lake Mountain at 3723 feet stands taller than anything as far as the eye can see. The fragrance of balsam fir trees on this summit only serve to add to this high mountain experience. The autumn colors make for incredible photos from the fire tower on the summit.

Bike & Hike Watkins Glen Gorge
- 9 a.m.鈥6 p.m. Sunday, October 19
- Watkins Glen, $25 (includes a bike rental)
A scenic canal towpath and old railroad bed that has been transformed into a bicycling path provides us with a flat ride (approximately 12 miles) and passes the cascading waters of Montour Falls. We will take a break to hike the gorge of Watkins Glen State Park and enjoy even more falling water. This trip makes for a great day of adventure away from campus. Pack a hearty lunch, snacks and a water bottle for sure. Helmets are a must.

Lucifer Falls Day Hike (NO CLASSES)

- Robert Treman State Park, $15
Explore one of the many spectacular gorges of central New York! This 6 mile hike takes you past beautiful cascades, towering cliffs and along the awesome 115鈥 Lucifer Falls in Treman State Park. This is a moderate hike.
Bring plenty of water, lunch, and snacks鈥攁nd don鈥檛 forget your camera (or your phone!) to capture the memories. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy hiking shoes or boots.

Susquehanna Canoe
- 9 a.m.鈥4 p.m. Sunday, October 26
- Susquehanna River, $35
After a safety orientation and an introduction to canoeing fundamentals, we will paddle the meandering Susquehanna. Great blue herons, kingfishers and perhaps bald eagles are a few of the bird species you could expect to see as you enjoy the calm of autumn on a river.
Strong swimming skills are required. Please bring a packed lunch and a water bottle. Don鈥檛 forget a change of clothes and a towel to keep in the van.
