Student Printing Allocation:

  • Credit Allocation
    • All registered students are allotted 870 print credits.
    • The print allocation is issued by the first day of the semester for Fall, Summer, Spring, and Winter and is reset twice a year before the start of the Fall and Spring semesters.
    • The allocation permits 870 credits to be used to print in black and white or in color either double-sided(duplex- the default) or single-sided (simplex). 
    • Students must be registered for the current semester, have no holds listed in BUBrain and have a current University ID card.
  • Printing Credits
      • Black/White Printing
        • One-sided: 1 credit.
        • Two-sided: 1 credit.
      • Color Printing
        • One-sided: 8 credits.
        • Two-sided: 8 credits.
  • Additional Printing Credits
    • Students who require additional credits for academic purposes can submit a request using the . Approval is based on course requirements, academic need, and responsible printing practices.
    • You will receive an email when your remaining print credit balance drops below 20% (174 credits). This will help you monitor your usage and give you time to request additional credits if required for academic work.
    • ITS will review submitted requests for additional credits during normal business hours, Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. A request that is received after 5:00 pm, or on the weekends will be reviewed the next business day. If printing is found to not be academic in nature, the review may refer students to alternative printing solutions.
    • Your balance is not charged unless you actually print a document.

Printing Methods: Quick Tips for Printing Smart

1. Printing Web Interface

  • Access the web interface through MyBinghamton.
  • You can manage printing tasks, including checking print credits balance, viewing printing history, and uploading files to print.

2. Printing from a lab or classroom computer

  • ITS Lab and Classroom Computers are configured to print directly to the Student Printing System.
  • Simply choose File —> Print from the application you are using to send your file to the printer.
  • Release print jobs by waving your ID card over the black ID card reader at the nearest student printer.

3. Printing from your own personal device, email or the web, 
go to:

  • Email to Print:
    • Attach the file you want to print and send it to print@binghamton.edu: supported file type: pdf.
    • Release print jobs by waving your ID card over the black ID card reader at the nearest student printer. Any print jobs in your queue are released and then printed.
  • Web Print:
    • Log into using your Computer Account/BU credentials.
    • Select "Web Print" and upload the files you want to print.
    • Supported file types: pdf.
    • Release print jobs by waving your ID card over the black ID card reader at the nearest student printer.

Wi-Fi Printers: Compatibility and Recommendations

Wireless printers are not compatible with the University’s secure, enterprise-level Wi-Fi network (eduroam), and are not supported in the Residence Halls. ITS recommends USB connected printers.
