  • New Course Evaluation System piloting this summer for select colleges

    Dear students,

    We are excited to inform you that 黑料不打烊 will pilot a new Course Evaluation System (CES) powered by Watermark during the Summer 2025 term. This new platform is designed to make providing course feedback easier, more accessible and more meaningful.

    The pilot will include only students enrolled in courses through the Harpur College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Community and Public Affairs (CCPA). If you are taking courses in these colleges this summer, you will receive an email invitation to complete your course evaluations through the new system.

    If your summer courses are in other colleges or schools, you will continue to complete your evaluations through the Student Opinion of Teaching (SOOT) system, as in past semesters.

    Your feedback is incredibly valuable and helps faculty improve teaching and enhance the learning experience. Whether through CES or SOOT, Binghamton encourages you to take a few minutes to thoughtfully complete your course evaluations.

    The beginning of the fall semester and a new academic year is set to begin at 黑料不打烊 with the arrival of thousands of new and returning students and their families during move-in days, set for Aug. 15-17. Classes for all of Binghamton鈥檚 approximately 18,600 students begin Tuesday, Aug. 19.

    Binghamton received a record 74,725 applications this year, which includes 61,200 first-year, 4,575 transfer and over 8,950 graduate student applications for fall 2025 admission.

  • Emergency locking mechanism installation project

    黑料不打烊 has initiated a campus-wide project to standardize emergency locking mechanisms on classroom doors. This multi-phase initiative is designed to enhance safety and security across academic spaces.

    The first phase of the project began this summer, focusing on classrooms in the Classroom Wing and Fine Arts Building. Classroom doors have been outfitted with interior door handles that include a red emergency locking button. In the event of an emergency, the red button can be pushed to immediately secure the door from inside the room. To exit or unlock the door, simply turn the interior handle, which will release the lock.

    These buttons are intended to be used only in emergencies to secure a classroom door.

    This important project will continue over the next two semesters to outfit all classrooms across campus with similar locking mechanisms.

  • Parking and transit during move-in for residents

    Starting Friday, Aug. 15, through Sunday, Aug. 17, after you unload at your designated drop-off area for move-in, vehicles must be moved. Family vehicles may temporarily park in Lots M1, M2, M3 and M4. Due to lot closures for move-in, resident students must park in lots E, G1, H or ZZ (north or south) overnight. All 24-hour lots will reopen at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17. Residents must move their vehicles between 6 p.m. and midnight on Aug. 17 to a 24-hour lot.

    OCCT will be transporting students and families between the parking lots and the residence halls. BC Transit will continue to offer service throughout the community, but will temporarily only be picking up and dropping off in Lot C, in front of the Anderson Center, from Aug. 15-17. OCCT will provide a welcome back service Aug. 16-18 and will also be using Lot C as a pick-up/drop-off point.

    All parking and bus stop locations will return to normal use on Monday, Aug. 18. Full transit service for the semester will begin on Tuesday, Aug. 19.

  • Eduroam Wi-Fi update

    As required by the Wi-Fi certificate vendor, ITS made an important update to the eduroam Wi-Fi network on May 29. In order to minimize service interruption, an additional one-time step is required by all users. While this step will install a new security certificate on your device, there will be no visible difference in Wi-Fi functionality. The new security certificate will reflect a required change that was made end of the spring semester in the Wi-Fi certificate vendor's name.

    To stay connected to Eduroam (campus Wi-Fi) without issues, run the latest version of JoinNow on your devices. This will get your device ready with the new configuration. If you do not complete this, you may not be able to connect to the eduroam network. If you connect on multiple devices (e.g., your laptop, your phone, etc.) this will need to be done on each device. This utility only needs to be run on Wi-Fi-connected desktops, laptops and mobile devices, but does not need to be run on wired desktops.

  • University Food Policy update

    Effective immediately, "Management Policy #504 - Food Policy" has been updated. All campus entities, students, faculty and staff are subject to the requirements associated with this policy when serving food and/or beverages on campus.

    黑料不打烊 is committed to ensuring the safety, quality and consistency of all food and beverages served on campus. As part of this commitment, the University maintains an exclusive contractual relationship with Sodexo. All food and beverages served on campus must be provided through 黑料不打烊 Dining Services (BUDS). Exemptions may be made for events with food costs under BUDS' first right of refusal threshold, or in rare cases when BUDS determines that they are unable to meet a requested service or specialty foods are necessary.

    Key updates to the policy include an increase of the threshold for BUDS' first right of refusal to $300, a new Pre-Authorized Off-Campus Food Provider List for approved exemptions and an online Food Policy Portal replacing paper submission processes.   • Purchase your parking permit

    Indivduals can purchase parking permits online today at the Transportation and Parking Services (TAPS) portal below. It鈥檚 easy and convenient! To log in, you will need your 黑料不打烊 ID and Two Factor Authentication (2FA).

    First time permit buyer? You must first register your vehicle online with the University. If you are a returning customer, log in, follow the step-by-step instructions and confirm that your vehicle information is up to date. When you purchase a 2025-26 annual permit or semester permit, the permit will immediately be active.

    TAPS utilizes License Plate Recognition (LPR), a plate-recognition technology that virtually associates 黑料不打烊 parking permits to a license plate. Vehicle information can be updated from your online account at any time. See the campus map for parking lot locations and which lot designations correspond with a permit type. Parking Services closely monitor lot availability and updates the TAPS parking availability website with which parking lots have available space during peak times on campus.

  • Manhattan Graduate Scholars Program Scholarship

    Students are invited to apply for the Manhattan Graduate Scholars Program, which provides financial support for students entering the one-year, Saturdays-only Manhattan-based graduate program focused on improving healthcare systems. Studies are available in-person in Manhattan, online or in a hybrid format. This one-year program is designed to provide individuals with a bachelor's degree the opportunity to gain sufficient knowledge and skills for modeling, analyzing and/or designing healthcare delivery systems and processes.

  • 2025-26 Music Department concert season

    The 黑料不打烊 Music Department is pleased to announce its 2025-26 concert season, a series of performances celebrating music excellence through beloved classics and exciting new works.

    The season features more than 65 concerts, operas, guest artists and faculty showcases, so university students and community members can explore music that spans centuries, styles and cultures.

    The season opens on Sunday, Aug. 24, with The Greg Evans Trio in Casadesus Recital Hall with an eclectic mix of jazz tunes. Other fall semester highlights will include a celebration of Latin American Art Song with Brenda Iglesias, professor of voice and contralto on Saturday, Sept. 13; a residency with N.Y. Voices collaborating with the university choirs on Sunday, Oct. 5; the Children鈥檚 Opera: "Sid the Serpent Who Wanted to Sing", on Sunday, Nov. 16; and Harpur Jazz Week with guitarist Gabe Condon, on Thursday, Nov. 20.

    The spring semester is packed with even more outstanding performances. Some highlights include: the spring opera, "Postcard From Morocco"; artists-in-residence, HUB New Music and the 黑料不打烊 Symphony Orchestra, featuring a special guest.

    As always, the department has outstanding ensemble performances to look forward to in both semesters. Audiences can come and see concerts with the University Wind Symphony; the 黑料不打烊 Symphony Orchestra; the Percussion Ensemble and Steel Drum Band; Collegium Musicum early music Ensemble; the Nukporfe African Drumming and Dance Ensemble; the Piano, Low Brass, Flute and Guitar Ensembles, and so much more.

  • Get credit for your Fall semester internship through CDCI 395

    The Fleishman Center for Career and Professional Development offers 黑料不打烊 students a chance to get academic credit for their Fall semester internships. Students can enroll in CDCI 395, an online asynchronous course that students take in conjunction with their internship to further enhance their experience and create more opportunities for learning and professional development.

  • English-speaking assistant (ESA) opportunity

    Interested in becoming a teacher in the future? Want to broaden your international perspectives? Looking for a way to help international students succeed at Binghamton?

    Consider becoming an English-speaking assistant (ESA) for "EML 205: Applied Academic Speaking and Listening Discussion."

    As an ESA, you will work directly with international students, helping them adjust to U.S. academic expectations while also developing your own teaching, communication and intercultural skills.

    The class you鈥檒l assist with: "EML 205 鈥 Applied Academic Speaking and Listening Discussion," meets from 8鈥9:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. This is part of a 400-level EML/Linguistics course, LING/EML 491, which counts toward both the linguistics major and the education minor.

  • Special Visions branch hours during move-in weekend

    To support your financial needs during move-in weekend, the Visions Federal Credit Union on-campus branch will be open with special hours on Aug. 16-17. Visit the branch on the second floor of The Union from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 16, and from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 17.

    Note that Visions will be closing early at 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 15, in celebration of Visions Employee Appreciation Day.

  • Changes to student printing system supporting sustainability

    Beginning this Fall semester, 黑料不打烊 will be implementing a new, more sustainable student printing system. The University is moving from a dollar-based quota to a credit-based system that simplifies how you track your printing and encourages responsible resource use.

    The number of pages allocated has not changed; each student receives 870 print credits at the start of each semester.
    - One black-and-white page = one credit
    - One color page = eight credits

    The print allocation is issued by the first day of the fall, summer, spring and winter semesters, and is reset twice a year before the start of the Fall and Spring semesters.

    To help you get the most out of your print credits, ITS will be updating campus printers to default to duplex (double-sided) printing, and will also send out a low print credit email once you fall below 20% of your printing credits.

    If you need additional credits for your academic requirements, you will be able to submit a request through our new "Printing Credit Request Form." You will be asked to justify your need and watch a brief video on responsible printing.

  • BUC$ program to be discontinued

    BUC$, the optional student amenity that allows prepaid funds to be added to a student ID card to pay for certain University services, will be discontinued. This decision was made after a thorough review of campus needs and available technologies. The change allows a transition to more modern, flexible and widely used payment options across campus.

    As of Aug. 4, 2025, adding funds to a BUC$ account on a student ID card will no longer be available. Any residual BUC$ balances will remain available for use through May 29, 2026. Dining Services and the University Bookstore will continue to accept BUC$ during this time. Students may also convert BUC$ balances to dining dollars or request a refund by emailing BinghamtonMealPlanOffice.USA@sodexo.com or visiting the Meal Plan office in UU-B02. Students are encouraged to spend BUC$ balances this academic year. Changes to student printing quotas have been made.

  • Metabolic/Exercise Physiology Lab seeking student research assistance

    The Metabolic/Exercise Physiology Lab is seeking 8-10 pre-health science students interested in working in the Metabolic/Exercise Physiology Lab. The students will be trained in how to administer resting metabolic rate (RMR) properly聽and VO2 studies using a Cosmed Quark/CPET machine.聽They will also be trained in interpreting test results. These individuals聽will need to be (or become) Citi certified and聽be certified in BLS CPR/AED.聽The lab is planning on conducting聽approximately 300 of each test this semester.聽Outside of the lab,聽the students will assist in data evaluation and participate in generating abstracts, posters and articles.

    This is an ongoing opportunity,聽and those selected will be enrolled聽in HWS499 and be eligible for credit based on participation availability.

  • Research study seeks participants 18 and older to take memory and other cognitive tests in MRI scanner (paid)

    Participate in an MRI study investigating how people predict the accuracy of their memory. The study consists of two sessions (Visit one will take one hour in Science 4, and Visit two will require two hours at UHS Vestal Hospital).

    You are eligible if:
    - You are at least 18 years of age,
    - Have normal or corrected-to-normal vision,
    - Do not have the following: history of neurological disease, severe traumatic brain injury, stroke, claustrophobia, drug or substance abuse, uncontrollable shaking, any conditions that would contraindicate MRI, such as having foreign metallic objects in the body, are left-handed (due to different patterns of brain activity) and pregnancy.

    You must pass a screener over the phone, which assesses MRI eligibility and your current cognitive functioning.

    In the first visit, you will take tests of executive function, word reading ability and fill out survey questions about your demographics, health history, global memory and perception of your mathematical abilities. In the second visit, your brain activity will be measured through magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). While in the MRI scanner, you will see pictures of faces and objects, be asked to predict how well you remember them, and take a memory test for them. You will also be asked to complete mathematical tasks while inside the scanner.

    Participants will receive $20 per hour for participating in the study.
